Irony…PPI Style…..

Victor Aldrey

I love Irony. We find it everywhere. Slaps you in the face every day when you least expect it. I routinely look for irony on my Twitter feed so I can have a Daily Dose of Irony and share with those following and those that just stop by for a visit and see my page. This week I found one of the most ironic scenarios I have come across this year. The Property Preservation Industry provides a lot of irony. Irony from the Enabling Emplactors is a daily occurrence throughout the various social media platforms that cater to the Property Preservation Industry.  That said, this bit of irony I write about today really takes the cake. As a matter of fact the set of circumstances around what I shall deem “The Rant” just might take the Irony of the Year Award just because of this line by the ranting party…

…”I’m sure this will end up a screen-shot and sent to him, as well as end up on a well-known preservation blog but I’m at my wits end here”….

Make no mistake folks, that is exactly what the author of this statement wants. I do thank the author calling my blog “well-known” I’m flattered. What is troubling for me is that the rant below is made over eight hundred forty dollars. I know a paltry sum of money for many, A TON of money to one with a child at the holidays. What I find so ironic about the author of The Rant is that many years ago when people were being robbed by her employer she sat silently in her cubical collecting her paycheck while members of Labor under her watch lost their businesses, homes, credit lines and livelihoods.

Perhaps had the author of The Rant spoke up five years ago as Robert and Brittany were bilking the miss-Classified Employees of millions of dollars, the proper attention would have been directed to the infamous Offender Members of the notorious National Association of Mortgage Field Services. Perhaps, mind you just perhaps. I can remember when eight dollar haircut Kim the Spin Doctor came on board so they could milk every drop of blood from the stones they depended upon for photos so they could bilk Labor, while they sullied their clients name.  The Rant is well articulated as was an email I received from a source many years ago, you be the judge…

The Rant….

Most of you have known me for MANY years, a lot of you worked for me, or I’ve worked for you, or we’ve worked together- we’ve met in person OR maybe we’ve never met at all and become friends over talks of tarped roofs, grass cuts and winterization season. If you know me personally, you know that I am NOT in any way a malicious person, so for me to have to make this post means I’ve exhausted all other personal resources.

A well-known contractor that goes by the name of Malcolm Andrew Kidd who owns Shield Asset Management in Anderson, South Carolina owes me $840.00 for processing. I worked for him under Presentable Properties and when he branched off, I went with him. I left for a while to go to work full time for a retail chain and came back when he asked me to help because the overseas processors just were not cutting it for him. I have worked for him since November 2017 straight until last week. For the best interest of my processing and the other clients that I work for, I had to release his company from mine on 11/12/2018. I did so after at least 8 months of straight late payments. I sent reminders, 3 months of warnings about late payments and what would happen if these continued, and yet again my payment was late for November the 9th – and now for his final payment that was due 11/16. My company has a 24-hour late policy. After 24 hours, your account in placed on hold due to the several other contractors, who shall not be named at this time, used my company and then refused to pay. (Several other of my long-time clients and current clients can back this up).

I mulled over the decision and decided it would be better if we parted ways. After that email was sent, I have since been blocked from Facebook, blocked from his phone (I sent a text message politely asking for the money owed on Friday- he has not opened it or responded). I have sent 4 reminders in Google Pay that the money is still owed- each which goes directly to his email – none of which have been responded to.

Tomorrow I am heading to the IRS office, to file the SS-8 form to file taxes on my under the table earnings from Shield Asset Management. This will launch an investigation into his company and into each one of his employees working for him, past and present, as to why taxes are not being paid nor are they registered as 1099 contractors. An email will be going out to all his current/former clients as well (those details which I will not disclose here on social media) with proof of all the things I am emailing over. It appears that I will also be forced to go ahead and seek any means necessary to obtain my earnings, which all could have been avoided if the money owed had just been paid.

I seriously regret having to do any of this, and if you know me personally you know it takes A LOT to push me to this point. I have tried to be civil, professional and an over all decent human being and a so-called “friend” for over 6 years. It’s just sad that a friendship/business relationship cannot end cordially – but after him telling/bragging to me more than once he owes the over seas processors well over $1,000 and he won’t pay them because there’s nothing that they can do about it, I just cannot take that chance. I have a family to support, food to put on my table, and this is one of the ways that I do it, which is slowly dwindling down to making me regret helping anyone more and more.

I’m sure this will end up screen-shot and sent to him, as well as end up on a well-known preservation blog, but I’m at my wits end here, and short of driving 6 hours back to South Carolina, there’s not much more I can do. I am not looking for anyone else to slander him, say anything bad about him or his business, etc. This is NOT personal towards him or his family as we considered them great friends for a long time, this is just business. And right now, with us living off my income alone, $840.00 means a lot more than it does to most. Especially right before Thanksgiving and Christmas. I do not want anyone else to fall into this trap as it seems that there are at least 2 companies right now that are owed.

Happy Sunday!

**His email is blocked because I don’t need anyone emailing him anything malicious and it’s not my email to give out- and I refuse to be one of those people who stoops to that level. **

Yes irony….when you least expect it.

So this week’s Watch List inductee has to be Malcom Andrew Kidd the owner of Shield Asset Management of Anderson, South Carolina for the sum of $840.00 and the fact that I have a well-known Preservation Blog. Now if only those owed thousands and thousands of dollars would buck the %$FT%^ up and speak out also…..

Until Next Time

Happy Gardening

Me on the Radio

In the movie Donny Brasco there is a Line by Al Pacino’s character…Even a dog gets a warm piece of the sidewalk…While my talents are not on the same level of Al’s, although I have been told there is a  resemblance, I’m not so sure of that either. What I do know because a very wise man once told me…if you never give opportunity a chance, opportunity will never happen. When I was considering asking for this interview it was my father’s voice I heard talking about opportunity at the same time I could see the shadows of Little Man running around in the canyons of my mind yelling…WILL YA JUST DO IT ALREADY!!!!! So I asked Carey Gillam via Twitter if she would do an interview with me for the blog. When she responded…sure…well talk about acting like a giddy school girl…oh my!!!

Carey Gillam, the award winning Investigative Journalist and Author. From the Heartland to the Home of Fenway then on to the Big Peach and back, one could say Carey has made quite a name for herself. Herself and the truth about a weed killer, that is. As an Oakland fan I was apprehensive about asking but just had to know, Royals and Chiefs or Sox and Pats…Jayhawks Basketball, a Jayhawk Girl.

When I started writing I did it on a whim, sometimes I wish I’d have paid more attention in my English and writing classes. I mean I actually enjoy writing, going on little adventures with Little Man, digging into court briefs for articles. However, its interviews I enjoy the most, maybe that’s why I like radio so much, the interaction of live give and take. Conversations for interviews are the best as you really get a feel for the person, technology is a wonderful thing.

As an investigative journalist, sources are vital. Today information is at our finger tip via cyber-land. That said, one has to be very cognizant of the source of a website just like other media outlets, cyber-land is full of disinformation in addition to misinformation. I often find myself ending debate with, “when you use slanted facts you have a distorted slanted truth”. There is a lot of that out there, especially when it comes to the subject of Genetically Modified Organisms, or as we have come to call them GMO’s. For whatever reason, lines have become drawn in the sand on this subject. You are either “Pro” or “Anti” GMO. Refreshing when you talk to one that is kind of like you on the subject. I have always considered myself a “Straddler” because I firmly believe the GMO Technology is pretty sound science, I just have a problem with the deception of how said technology is being used. Pecuniary Greed in the chemical industry, combined with our broken political system created a problem that our wonderful chemical industry already had a solution for.

This position makes it very difficult for the folks I refer to as “industry shills” that work off a cheat sheet in various social media platforms to debate you because your answers do not fall into any catagories of talking points on their cheat sheets. They especially hate it when I tell them to check with their handlers!! While I have never actually seen Ms. Gillam comment in any platform other than Twitter, she is routinely the subject matter of discussions. When you see what is written in various social media platforms…attacks is probably the more appropriate term, as with anything GMO there are only two sides and if you’re “Pro-GMO” you must hate Carey and can only spew vitriol commentary about whatever has been written. That said…our interview.

As a Jayhawk Girl, you chose Journalism, what was so intriguing about the field of Journalism?

I always wanted to be a journalist, from about the age of 12. I thought there could not possibly be any more interesting job in the world and I still feel that way.

Were you always a Farm Girl?

I did not grow up on a farm. I was born in suburban Kansas City and moved to suburban Boston when I was four years old. I did eventually convince my parents to buy me a horse and we got a little acreage and built a barn, but that was far from farm life.

You had worked your way into a pretty successful journalistic career in the financial sector, `When Reuters asked you to go back to Kansas to report on agriculture was that like saying hey you’re from Kansas you’re a farm girl go report on agriculture for us, or was there an interest on your part to go rediscover the farming industry?

I was covering the banking industry for American Banker, owned by Thomson Financial (which eventually merged with Reuters) and has just had my first child in 1998. I was living in Atlanta when I learned about an opening Reuters had in Kansas City covering the wheat futures exchange and agriculture. It was significantly more money than I was making and a chance to raise my daughter in a place with less traffic, a lower cost of living and better public schools.

Were you aware of the “Substantially Equivalent” position our regulatory agencies took in the early 90’s when you left Kansas for the big city lights??

Once I started covering the ag beat and learning about GMOs I became familiar with the legal and regulatory framework.

I have always maintained that the “Ruse” to feed the hungry children of the world, while a noble cause, the GMO issue is one driven by Pecuniary Greed. How long before you realized that the underlying issue for the GMO industry was to sell a chemical?

If you look at data provided by the agrochemical industry and reported through industry -funded ISAAA http://www.isaaa.org/ you can see that the single most planted and cultivated type of GMO is that which is designed to be sprayed directly with herbicide. There are other trait technologies, but the most widely adopted and used in the 1990s and today is that which conveys herbicide tolerance. It’s clearly not about feeding the world.

Is that what led you to look at the regulatory issues???

Covering the ag beat means understanding the regulatory framework.

Your book Whitewash – The Story of a Weed Killer, Cancer and the Corruption of Science  has as part of the title is “Corruption of Science” What made you start to examine the science?

Following and familiarizing yourself with the science surround the issue you are covering is a critical part of any journalist’s job. I’ve been tracking the science for the last two decades.

Many for the Pro-GMO proponents, (their term not mine) make numerous negative claims about you. Was perception of Carey Gillam being an award winning journalist to a discredited journalists an overnight thing or did the industry gradually turn you into some sort of anti-science monster that needed psychologizing??

The industry has not turned me into anything. Industry players sling mud and write and say nasty things and desperately try to do anything they can to discredit me. They do this to others as well but have increased their efforts against me since my book came out. They are trying to protect billions of dollars in profits and they are willing to be very deceptive in their tactics. But that doesn’t affect me; it doesn’t change who I am or the veracity and the significance of the work that I do.
